Jews have lived in Mengede since the 19th century. Jews from Mengede, Deusen and Bodelschwing belonged to the Castrop community. They did not go to the Castrop synagogue, rather they used the prayer room in the house of Friedrich Hagemann in Siegenstr. Nothing is known of devastation during the Reichskristallnacht.
