In the Middle Ages there was at least in the first half of the 14th century in Meiningen a synagogue (Jüden church). After the persecution in the plague period, it stood empty until 1384, when it was transformed into a Marian chapel.
In the second half of the 19th century, a prayer hall was initially established. According to ... Report of 1878 it was a "rented, but expediently furnished hall".
1881-1883 could be built according to the plans of the master builder Ernst Abesser a synagogue. On April 14, 1883 it was inaugurated. 340 people found place in it. [...]
