The address book of 1900 contains the following entry: Gebrüder Elias A. H., Augustengasse 4. The Turkish wholesale company was founded at that time by Menachem H. Elias sen. The Sephardic family, originally from Salonika, had immigrated to Vienna in 1822 and was granted a wholesale license. The Vienna headquarters, however, was only one of the family's numerous enterprises.
