Alexander Kamp came to the city shortly after the synagogue was built on the corner of Marktstraße and Petersstraße and set up his business on Petersstraße with his brother Adolf. They sold hides and casings for butcher shops. At the end of the 1870s, he and his business moved to the acquired and larger house on Petersstraße 51-53. Alexander Kamp retired in 1896.
His sons took over his business and founded the company "Gebrüder Kamp". They traded in spices, hides and casings for the production of sausages, but also offered machines and equipment for store fittings for butchers. Their clientele came from all over the Lower Rhine and Westphalia. The brothers rose to become the leading suppliers in their industry. This market-leading position initially protected the company from boycotts after the National Socialist takeover, so that business initially remained lucrative and profits respectable.
In the middle of 1938, the Kamp family decided to sell their company and the firm ceased trading in October of the same year. The company had been sold to two investors from Düsseldorf, but at least formally the shares of Paul and Adolf Kamp still existed. The initial purchasers sold the business and the property on to Heinrich Bauer, a Siegburg merchant, in 1942/43.
