The Jewish community of Oberwesel, the former imperial city of Wesel (1237 to 1309), was first mentioned in the imperial tax directory of 1241. [1] As in most regions of the empire, the Jews of Oberwesel experienced a constant succession of toleration and expulsion in the centuries that followed. The latter was mostly accompanied by the loss of their possessions, often even their lives.
