Jewish Community

A Jewish community in Alsenz, a local community in the Donnersbergkreis district of Rhineland-Palatinate, had existed since the 17th century.

The Prayer Hall, erroneously called the Koblenz Synagogue by many, is the place of worship of the Jewish religious community of Koblenz and the surrounding counties. The current prayer hall in the Rauental district was formerly the mourning hall of the adjacent Jewish cemetery. Previously, the synagogue was located in the old town of Koblenz, most recently in the Bürresheimer Hof until its destruction during the November pogroms of 1938.

The Jewish community in Dierdorf in the district of Neuwied (Rhineland-Palatinate) was a Jewish community established in the 18th century, with roots dating back to the Middle Ages. The Jewish community became extinct in 1938/42[1] in the course of the deportation of German Jews during the National Socialist era.

[1] As in most regions of the empire, the Jews of Oberwesel experienced a constant succession of toleration and expulsion in the centuries that followed. The latter was mostly accompanied by the loss of their possessions, often even their lives.
