Jewish Community

The former synagogue was built in Eisleben in 1850 and is a protected cultural monument.

Judaism has a long tradition in Dresden, which dates back in written form to the beginning of the city's history in the 13th century. Since a Jewish merchant roamed the Dresden region as early as the 9th century, it can be assumed that Jews were already living in Dresden when the city was founded in the 12th century.

A Jewish community in Aach, a local community in the district of Trier-Saarburg (Rhineland-Palatinate), existed as early as the Middle Ages.

A Jewish community in Albersweiler, a local municipality in the Südliche Weinstraße district of Rhineland-Palatinate, had existed since the 16th century.

The Jewish community in Altenkirchen (Altenkirchen County, Rhineland-Palatinate) probably originated in the 17th century with the settlement of Schutzjuden in the county of Sayn-Altenkirchen. The community had its own Jewish cemetery in Altenkirchen and, from 1884, a synagogue with 120 seats. The Jewish community became extinct in the course of the deportation of German Jews during the National Socialist era.

The Jewish community (kehillah) in Deidesheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, existed - with interruptions - from the late Middle Ages until the time of National Socialism. Evidence of its long history can still be seen today in the former synagogue and the Jewish cemetery.

The history of the Jewish community in Calvörde began with the arrival of the first Jews from 1752 and already after a few decades the majority of Jewish families, for economic reasons, moved out of Calvörde.

The Jewish community of Hamm in the Altenkirchen district (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate probably came into being in the 17th century through the settlement of Schutzjuden by the local rulers. However, it experienced a gradual decline due to emigration in the second half of the 19th century. The Jewish community became extinct in the course of the deportation of German Jews during the National Socialist era. The memory of them is kept alive by the local community of Hamm with the Synagogue Square and the KulturHausHamm/Sieg.
