Max Nartelski was born on February 23, 1888 in Königsberg into a Jewish family. His brothers were Julius and Jakob, one sister was named Minna. He moved to Berlin, became a textile merchant and remained single. He lived alone in Schöneberg at Bambergerstraße 58.
