The building is located at ul. Pawła Włodkowica 7 – 9. It was built in the years 1827 to 1829 according to the plans of K. F. Langhans, a German architect of the Classicist period, as the first large Jewish house of prayer in Silesia. The building was erected at a time of progressive emancipation of the Jewish population in Prussia. The synagogue was rebuilt several times.

The Jewish burial place Teplice-Sobědruhy / Soborten was established in 1669 by Jews from Bohemia. Until 1751, Jews from the neighboring Electorate of Saxony were also buried in Soborten. The Jewish community of Soborten was probably one of the oldest in Böhmen. Approximately 200 gräber have been preserved.

The origins of the silk velvet trade go back to 1830, when Enoch Aron Schwarzschild and Jakob Aron Schwarzschild ran a silk business in Frankfurt am Main. Enoch was married to Rosine, daughter of the silk merchant Moses Ochs. In 1860, this became the Schwarzschild-Ochs silk shop. In 1904, the business opened in Frankfurt at Ro&szligmarkt 13. There was also a branch in Berlin at Leipziger Stra&szlig 24. In 1922, the company became a joint stock company “Schwarzschild-Ochs AG” (headquarters: Rossmarkt 13), finishing and selling textiles, especially velvet and silk fabrics.

The department store for men's and women's clothing Hermanns & Froitzheim, founded in 1886 had its main location in Frankfurt am Main, - but also numerous branches in Frankfurt-Bockenheim, Bonn, Hamburg, Berlin, Aachen, Wuppertal and Köln, among others. With the rise to power of the National Socialists, anti-Semitic actions increased, which ultimately ended in 1938 with the Aryanization of the company.
