The synagogue was located in (Old) Garzweiler. Due to the expansion of the open-cast lignite mining, in the 1980s, the old village of Garzweiler was abandoned and the inhabitants* resettled to Neu-Garzweiler. In the meantime, Neu-Garzweiler has been renamed Garzweiler. On the village square of (Neu-) Garzweiler there is a memorial plaque for the old synagogue. Before the resettlement, a memorial plaque in front of the Town Hall of (Old) Garzweiler reminded of the synagogue.
