The Henriettenstift was founded in 1852 by Henriette Schie (1801–1893), wife of the founder and banker Wilhelm Schie (1805–1861), at Eliasstraße 24 (renamed Güntzstraße 24 in 1938). The Henriettenstift was a poorhouse for Jewish families, which in the course of time developed into a home for the elderly, where mainly elderly single Jewish ladies lived. On July 4, 1939, the monastery was dissolved by the National Socialists and declared a so-called „Jews' house“ at the beginning of 1940. The 51 residents were deported to Theresienstadt in the summer of 1942. Only two women survived the deportation.

During the air raids on Dresden from February 13 to 15, 1945, the building was destroyed.
