The Jüdische Nachrichtenblatt Prag - Židovské listy was a bilingual newspaper (German/Czech) published in Prague from November 1939 to January 1945. It was published during the time of the Protectorate of Böhmen und Mähren and served as the official organ of the Jewish community in Prague and the Zionist organizations. During the first phase (24 November 1939 to 13 September 1940) it was the organ of the Jewish Community and the Zionist Organization in Prague. From September 20, 1940 to February 5, 1943, it functioned exclusively as the organ of the Jewish Community in Prague. In the last phase, from February 12, 1943 to January 26, 1945, it was the organ of the Jewish Council in Prague.
The editorial office of the Jüdisches Nachrichtenblatt Prag (Židovské listy) was located in the Palác Orbis in Prague from 1941 to 1944. This striking building is located in the Vinohrady district, close to Peace Square (Náměstí míru), and today houses the Czech Ministry for Regional Development. A sign at the entrance recalls the historical use of the building as the headquarters of the editorial office.
Before the editorial office was relocated to Palác Orbis, the Jüdische Nachrichtenblatt was housed in the premises of the Orbis printing house, which was also responsible for printing the newspaper.
The editorial office of the Jüdisches Nachrichtenblatt Prague played a central role in the Jewish community during the Protectorate of Böhmen und Mähren. Under Gestapo censorship, it published information of importance to the Jewish population, including instructions and decrees issued by the Protectorate government. Despite censorship, the editorial team also managed to disseminate information and calls for emigration.
