Adolf Isaak Joseph was born on January 2, 1874 in Schermeisel, Oststernberg district, Mark Brandenburg. He was a gardener by trade and frequently changed his place of residence. He probably did not have a regular job. In 1931 he came to Celle and lived in the "Herberge zur Heimat", Bergstraß 42. From 1933 he lived in the municipal care home at Harburger Strasse 70. In 1940, he was instructed by the city to carry coal to the apartment of the Jewish couple Iwan and Lydia Dawosky (Breite Straße 19) because they were no longer able to do so themselves. It is conceivable that Joseph was also called upon to perform other auxiliary services. On October 15, 1941, he was forcibly quartered in the „Jews' House“, for which the community center and synagogue, Im Kreise 23/24, had been misappropriated by the National Socialists. The people were housed here in very confined spaces under total surveillance until their deportation to the extermination camps. Adolf Isaak Joseph died in the Celle "Jews' House" on January 29, 1942.
