Albert Doublon came from Apolda to Erfurt, moved to Schlösserstraße 30/31 and opened the shoe store „Salamander“ at Straße Anger 23/46.
He had two children: Erich and Wilhelm Doublon.
He moved with them to Lessingstraße 11.
Albert lost the right to sell Salamander shoes, but quickly found a new contract for a new shop from the Hess company at Anger 27.
This was also withdrawn from him. He then opened a store in his home,
where he again sold Salamander shoes.
His son Wilhelm married Erna Beermann and had two daughters: Lore and Eva.
In 1939, the Doublon family boarded the St. Louis, bound for Cuba in the Caribbean, because of the Nazi regime.
The family hoped for a better and safer life there, but Cuba refused entry to all passengers and redirected the ship to the USA.
However, the USA also refused entry and the ship was redirected to Canada.
Canada also refused entry. The captain gave up and returned to Antwerp in Belgium, from where the family traveled on to Brussels. There, the quality of life deteriorated increasingly. On January 15, 1944, they were deported to Auschwitz.
All family members died in the Holocaust.
