In 1898, the company "Markus Meyer Kartonfabrik Krefeld" was entered in the local commercial register as a letterpress, paper and cardboard wholesaler by Markus Meyer. Over the years, it became the most important family business in its sector in the wide area of the city. In 1927, a large new building was erected for the company at today's Philadelphiastrasse 146-150. It also housed apartments for employees. The building still stands today.
Despite the National Socialist takeover in January 1933, the company's profits continued to rise. Since November 1936, the company was now more called "E. & O. Meyer Kommanditgesellschaft" and it started to produce corrugated board in addition to solid board. Although the business success continued, Markus Meyer's heirs, Ernst and Otto Meyer, planned their emigration and decided to emigrate to the USA in 1937 and so Otto and his brother Ernst approached interested parties for their company. A number of sales contracts were not approved by the authorities, so a sales contract was signed with Fritz Peters in September 1938. In October of the same year, the company became the "Wellpapen- & Kartonagenfabrik Fritz Peters & Co."
Fritz Peters immediately began to further expand the company. For this purpose, he visited the factory site at Virchowstrasse 130, the Heedersche factory property, which he acquired in November 1939.
The company, which was entered in the commercial register in 1898 by Markus Meyer, is the origin of today's corrugated box factory Fritz Peters GmbH & Co in Moers Kapellen.
