Schneehof 1
37186 Moringen
Germany
In 1829, the Jewish community of Moringen builds its own synagogue on a plot of land "off the beaten track", in Schneehof 1. A half-timbered building is erected, each with four floor-to-ceiling windows with segmental/round arches on the long sides, two windows on the east side. Towards the east there was presumably also an apse for the Torah shrine. Inside, a women's lodge is suspected.
At the beginning of 1938, the congregation has to give up and sell the synagogue after declining membership. After a reconstruction, it serves as a residential building, which, however, allows it to survive the pogroms in November 1938.
In the uppermost transoms on the north and east sides, repaired recesses can be seen (lighter in color), which still bear witness to the previous, round windows.
The building is a listed building.
