The „old“ jüdische cemetery was established like the Remuh synagogue in the 16th century. Until the 19th century, burials were still held here, although the new cemetery immediately before Kaziemierz already existed. Many famous and famous Jews are buried in the cemetery. Among others, the grave of Rabbi Moses Isserles is located here. At his grave even today stones and notes with wishes are deposited
During the German occupation of Krakow, the surface stones were smashed and used as paving stones. After the war, the fragments were assembled into a „Wailing Wall“ on the east side of the cemetery. After restoration, there are now about 700 stones in this cemetery.
