In 1876, the brothers Max and Detmar Schwarz founded the company Samuel Schwarz Sarns, Mechanical Weaving Mill at 6 Zeulenrodaer Strasse. Her father Samuel Schwarz (1810-1889) settled in Greiz in 1840 as one of the first Jewish businessmen. In 1894 Detmar Schwarz left the company and left Greiz, whereupon his brother renamed the company „Samuel Schwarz Sohn, Offene Handelsgesellschaft“. After the death of Max Schwarz in 1922, the company was transformed into a limited partnership. The new owners were Walter Schwarz (son of Max Schwarz), Franziska Schwarz (wife of Max Schwarz), Käthe Stöckel, Emilie Arnstein (née Heller), Hans Heller and Paul Heller (niece and nephew or great-nephew of Max Schwarz). As early as 1923, they converted the company into a limited liability company with a share capital of 10 million Reichsmark. On January 01, 1940, the company was aryanized. Otto Ohlwein became the new managing director, he bought the company on April 24, 1942 and from then on called it „Otto Ohlwein GmbH“. In 1945, like many other businessmen, Ohlwein was expropriated by the Soviet military administration.
