Felix Plage (born November 1, 1866 in Breslau; June 28, 1939 in Freiburg im Breisgau) was originally a secondary school teacher before devoting himself to librarianship from 1906. From 1917, he was also head of the "Book Advisory Office for the Government District of Frankfurt," which provided guidance to the smaller libraries in the communities. Felix Plage developed Frankfurt's library system beginning with the "Städtische Buch- und Lesehalle" (Municipal Book and Reading Hall), which opened on April 1, 1906. In addition, he worked intensively on researching Frankfurt's history. In appreciation of his extraordinary efforts for the library system, the age limit for retirement was postponed indefinitely. Felix Plage was elected honorary city councilor in appreciation of his services. A high point of his activity  was the move to the "Nippe House" in 1932, where the city library is still located today. The Nazis expelled the democratically minded Felix Plage. On April 1, 1933, he had to give up his job. He lived in seclusion in Freiburg im Breisgau until his death.
