Initially, the Jews living in Brotdorf attended the synagogue in Merzig. By the first half of the 19th century at the latest, a prayer room had been established in Brotdorf in one of the Jewish houses. When the number of Jewish inhabitants had increased relatively strongly around the middle of the 19th century, the community decided to build a synagogue. The previous prayer hall had become too small. In order to finance the synagogue, a house collection was to be held in other communities in the spring of 1854, but this was rejected. In principle, the authorities would have preferred the Brotdorf Jews to forego the construction of a synagogue and to seek the Merzig synagogue. Nevertheless, the Jewish community succeeded in 1854 in creating a thoroughly representative building in Brotdorf . High round-arched windows indicated the special character of the house. The gable peaks above the hipped roof bore Stars of David. The main entrance faced the street, the women's entrance was on the side. From here an interior staircase led to the women's gallery. The synagogue was consecrated on December 15, 1854.

On special events in the history of the synagogue is known little. On June 15, 1887, a new Torah scroll - donated by the Israelitischer Jünglingsverein  was consecrated. A newspaper report stated: "On Friday, at about 6 o'clock in the morning, a procession of about 300 members of the faith moved from the house of Meier Moses
to the synagogue. The Torah had been donated by the Brotdorfer Israelitischer Jünglingsverein. At the beginning of the procession walked the four elders of the community with the four old Torahs, then followed the new Torah, surrounded by 20 children dressed in white. The factory band played the chorale: 'Now give thanks All God.' Now the synagogue choir of Merzig joined in, then Mr. Mayor Reuter, local chiefs, school teachers and many others. Arrived at the synagogue carried the son of Mr. Hanau from here a suitable
