The community belonged to the rabbinical district Kaiserslautern. Beginnings of first organized Jewish life can be found in 1808 with a room that was used for religious services.

Around 1925, when again 120 Jewish inhabitants were counted (6.6% of the total of about 1,800 inhabitants), the community council was formed by Messrs. Siegmund Becker, Johann Meyer, Benjamin Berg and Ludwig (Louis) Breitmann. Julius Lamm was employed as cantor (until his transfer to Pirmasens 1930). He also gave religious instruction to the then 10 school-age Jewish children (in 1932 still 6 children). Around 1925 also the Jewish persons living in Dielkirchen (35, 1932 36) were assigned to the community in Rockenhausen. In 1932 74 Jewish community members were counted. Apart from Johann Meyer, the same persons were still on the community board. Jewish teacher and cantor was Nathan Eschwege (born 1888 in Thüngen). The last cantors and teachers of the Jewish community were Fritz Levy since September 1933 and Jakob Färber since summer 1935 respectively.
