Synagogue of the Israelite religious community Eisenach

In the November pogrom of 1938, the synagogue was already lit on the evening of November 9 at around 10:30 pm. Before that, members of the Hitler Youth and the SA had demolished and smashed the interior. A little later, the ruins of the synagogue were demolished. The land came into the possession of the city. 
After 1945, the place came first to the pre-übergehend again existing synagogue community Eisenach, 1950/51 in the possession of the regional association of the Jewish community. On September 21, 1947, a synagogue memorial was erected. High-ranking personalities came to the event. The base of the memorial was built from stones of the former synagogue. In the following decades, the synagogue site was mostly in an unkempt condition. Only since the end of the 1980s it has been regularly maintained. In 1998, the earlier memorial plaques were replaced. The old plaques are located in the entrance area of the town archives. In 1998, a small plaque commemorating the Jews deported from Eisenach in 1942 was also installed. The location of the former synagogue is marked by the white plates embedded in the ground.
