The Neolog Synagogue in Brașov (German Kronstadt), a Romanian town in Siebenbürgen, was built from 1898 to 1901 according to plans by the architect Lipót Baumhorn .
The number of Jews in Brașov grew steadily, rising from 769 in 1890 to 6000 in 1940. During the Second World War, their safety was guaranteed in Brașov, but although they were not deported to camps, they suffered abuse at the hands of the fascist, nationalist group the Iron Guard. The Jewish community was disenfranchised, dispossessed and largely excluded from economic and social life. Even their Neologia synagogue was closed in 1941: The interior rooms, furnishings, stained glass windows and religious objects were damaged or destroyed. The synagogue was restored after the Second World War and in particular on the 100th anniversary of its dedication.
The synagogue in Strada Poarta Schei has been a protected cultural monument since 2004.
