Berta Sommerfeld née Mottek (1898–1943) came from Samter (province of Posen). She and her husband Bruno ran a textile business in Quedlinburg, which was destroyed in the course of the November pogroms in 1938. They later moved to Berlin. From there, Berta Sommerfeld was deported to Auschwitz extermination camp on March 1, 1943 and murdered just a few days later on March 13.
Bruno Sommerfeld (1886–?) came from Angerburg in East Prussia. He served as a soldier in the First World War, for which he was awarded the Iron Cross. He and his wife Berta ran a textile business in Quedlinburg, which was destroyed during the November pogroms in 1938. They later moved to Berlin. From there, Bruno Sommerfeld was deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp on March 4, 1943 and murdered. The exact date of his death is unknown.
