In the 2023/2024 school year, class 10a of Paderborn's Reismann-Gymnasium dealt with the topic of „anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination in OWL – then and now“. One result is a memorial plaque (pictures) on the school building on Reismannweg, developed with the support of the city archives and the Gesellschaft für Christlich-Jüdische Zusammenarbeit (GCJZ). The memorial plaque commemorates twelve Jewish pupils in the years 1933 - 1937 who were forced to leave the former Reismann Oberrealschule. The most important task of the school for the National Socialists was to teach the children the racial ideology of the National Socialists as early as possible. Hitler saw school as just a preliminary stage for the Wehrmacht.

The proportion of Jewish pupils at the then Oberrealschule was between 3 and 5 percent between 1922 and 1933. In 1933/34, the expulsion of Jews from the upper secondary schools was initiated. From 1937, there was not a single Jewish pupil left.

Beschreibung
Class of the Reismann Grammar School around 1933 with Ludwig Rosenbaum (1st row, 2nd from left). The life story of Heinz Stern is exemplary for the fates of the Jewish Reismann pupils: He was born on August 8, 1925 in Paderborn. He was enrolled in the 5th grade in 1936, but soon had to leave the Reismann School as a result of anti-Jewish legislation. He then attended the Jewish orphanage school, where he completed his elementary school education. On December 13, 1941, he was deported to Riga. Despite the inhumane conditions, he managed to survive. In 1945, he was able to emigrate to the United States via Oslo. There he settled in New York, where he remained until the end of his life. Heinz Stern's life is a touching example of the effects of National Socialist persecution on Jewish youths, their strength to survive and the tireless struggle for a life in freedom and dignity.

Beschreibung
The Reismann-Gymnasium, once an upper secondary school for boys, had a comparatively low proportion of Jewish pupils between 1922 and 1934, which varied between 3 and 5 percent and then steadily decreased. From 1937, there were no more Jewish pupils, a consequence of the increasing marginalization and persecution of the Jewish population.
