The Jewish cattle farmer Simon Aron (1839-1926) worked for 43 years as an elected honorary overseer of the poor and district leader for the town of Soltau. He was also a co-founder of the Soltau Liedertafel in 1887. He bequeathed his estate to the town for the preservation and maintenance of the Jewish cemetery on Böningweg. This was significant, as cemeteries belonging to Jewish communities were historically often endangered. In 1936, the funds left behind, which were to be used for specific purposes, were confiscated by the then mayor Willy Klapproth. The Jewish cemetery in Soltau was completely destroyed during his term of office (1913-1945).
Simon Aron was posthumously honored in December 2009: a parking lot of the City Service Center of the city of Soltau has borne his name ever since - the Simon Aron walkway.
It is surprising that the City Service Center or Tourist Information Office of the town of Soltau is not located at this address, but at Am Alten Stadtgraben 3.
