The trading company Knauth, Nachod & Kühne was founded in 1852. The co-owners of the company included the merchants Franz Theodor Knauth, Jacob Nachod and Friedrich Kühne. The company was originally active in cloth and commission sales. It had a lively import and export business with sales partners in the USA. It later focused on trading and banking business. -Jacob Nachod was born in Dresden on March 22, 1814. His parents were Naftali Nachod (1765–1822) from Dresden and Bertha Nachod, née Liebling (1781–1851). After the death of his father, Jacob Nachod attended the Samson School in Wolfenbüttel from 1826-1829. His brother Joachim Nachod taught modern languages. Jacob Nachod was married to Johanna Meyer from Dresden. The couple had three children - Alexander, died in 1870, Marie Louise, married Jaffé, born on May 9, 1848 and Friedrich, born on November 3, 1853. In addition to his profession as a successful banker, Jacob Nachod was also the Vice Consul of the U.S.A. in Leipzig. In 1844, he founded the Society of Friends in Leipzig, from which the Leipzig Jewish Religious Community emerged in 1846, and which he headed until his death. He was the first Jewish city councillor in Leipzig. He was a co-founder of the German-Israelitic Community Association and its president from 1873 to 1882. He was also the founder of numerous Jewish and interdenominational foundations. Jacob Nacod died on April 11, 1882 in Leipzig and found his final resting place in the Israel. Cemetery in Leipzig. His son Friedrich Nachod later became a merchant and, like his father, a partner in the bank and – like his father – Vice Consul of the U.S.A. in Leipzig.
