Israel ( Julius ) Polak was born on November 4, 1879 in Gouda, the Netherlands. His parents were Hartog Polak, born on April 20, 1847 in Goor / Netherlands and Dina Engers, born on September 8, 1854 in Winschoten / Netherlands. Julius Polak was married to Regina Polak, née Meyenberg, born on April 19, 1881 in Adelebsen. The couple had four children -Friedrich Karl (Fritz), born on August 24, 1904 in Adelebsen. He was deported to Auschwitz together with his wife Bernhardine (Berni), née Katzenstein, born on November 24, 1906 in Rotenburg and daughter Ilse, born on February 19, 1939 in Amsterdam. Bernhardine and Ilse Polak died there on February 11, 1944. Friedrich Polak was murdered there on June 30, 1944, - Hugo Polak, born on April 11, 1906 in Adelebsen - died on August 8, 1906 in Adelebsen, - Dina, married name Barnass, born on September 29, 1907 in Adelebsen. Dina was deported to the Warsaw ghetto together with her husband Hans Barnass and her daughters Eva and Ruth via Hannover-Dahlem. The whole family perished there - Mathilde Polak, born on March 1, 1918 in Adelebsen, was murdered in Sobibor on July 23, 1943. - Julius Polak was a Dutch citizen and ran a wholesale trade in oils, greases, paints, varnishes and cigars in Adelebsen. He sold his business in 1938 and moved to Amsterdam with his wife in 1939. From Amsterdam, they were both deported to the Sobibor extermination camp and murdered there.
