The Hannach family: The merchant and pump manufacturer Julius Hannach was born on May 26, 1861 in Lissa (province of Posen). The handover to Poland took place between January 17 and February 4, 1920. Aware of the change in nationality, Julius Hannach moved with his family from Lissa to Magdeburg at the end of 1919 and became the sole owner of the Philipp Hannach Magdeburger Pumpenfabrik in 1920. Their home was at Hohenstaufenring 9. Julius and Emmy Hannach probably saw no prospects for their lives after the November pogroms of 1938. Together they decided to end their lives with sleeping pills. The 62-year-old Emmy Cohn died in her apartment at Hohenstaufenring 9 on November 22, 1938; her husband was found alive and taken to the Altstadtkrankenhaus hospital.
