Article in the magazine "Der Israelit" from November 24, 1904: "Maßbach, November 21 (1904). The early morning hour of the Shabbat wejeze  (Shabbat with the Torah reading 'and it went out', November 19, 1904) brought to our consciousness in a shattering way the meaningful words of the Expounder to the first verse of the weekly passage 'you went out as righteous from this place into the land of pleasure'   .Our Mr. Louis David Katzenberger - Mr. Jehuda son of David HaKohen, the scholar of this community - passed away at the age of 66 after a one-week illness and left his wife Krone, the Glanz family, an ornament to our community. The mourning for the deceased is universal and deep, who, adorned with all the virtues of the spirit, gifted with a heart full of the purest human love and equipped with an energetic will, was a rare blossom on the tree of noble humanity.Genuine religiousness and incomparable charity, which never, but never tired of giving, sunny cheerfulness, the fruit of true education and heartfelt trust in God, were traits that were not peculiar to his nature.

From his early years he had taken an active part in all matters affecting the community.
