"Maßbach, August 27 (1922). Last week Mr. M. A. Marx celebrated his 70th birthday in full vigor and joy of work. Mr. Marx is [...] a true Jewish role model in the traditional sense for his, albeit small, community. He is also a zealous promoter of noble endeavors and has known how to earn great respect and admiration through his conscientiousness, even among his non-Jewish fellow citizens. As Mohel (circumciser) Mr. Marx enjoys a reputation übeyond his Bavarian state [...]."

"Maßbach (Lower Franconia), September 17 (1922). On Friday, September 1, Mr. M. A. Marx, a man not unknown in orthodox circles throughout Germany, celebrated his 70th birthday. Mr. Marx is the owner of a butcher's shop and a mail-order sausage business and is a convinced Yehudi. The Kissingen Rabbinate honored his services to the religious and secular institutions of the community, the district and the entire Jewish community by awarding him the title of Chawer. Mr. Marx is a committee member of the Bavarian Council and various other associations for the promotion and preservation of traditional Judaism. Since a young age he has performed the functions of a mohel (circumciser) free of charge. This exposed him to hardships of many kinds, but he did not shy away from wind and weather, losses of a pecuniary and non-material nature, in order to fulfill this Mizwoh (divine instruction). Probably 600 or even more boys were brought into Abraham's covenant by him. For five decades, he has performed the office of a Chasan (honorary prayer leader) on the most reverent days in the most splendid manner, as well as the office of a Bal-Toke.When the Bavarian government abolished the existing elementary school due to the low number of children, it was he who tirelessly ensured that Ma bach did not remain without Jewish teachers. The establishment of a cemetery in Maübach is to his credit.

Beschreibung
Article in the magazine "Der Israelit" of March 13, 1924: "Maßbach, March 6 (1924). The local Jewish community suffers an irreplaceable loss through the departure of its former chairman of many years, Mr. M.A. Marx. Brought up in a genuinely Jewish home according to the old traditions, he kept all the mitzvot (commandments) with scrupulous conscientiousness and always endeavored to bring up his children in the same spirit. He used his free time - after the day's hard work - to immerse himself in Jewish and secular sciences from his youth, and as a Jewish butcher he was able to study Jewish literature - a rare occurrence. Mr. Marx is known in the widest circles as a chasan (prayer leader, or should it be mohel = circumciser?). He initiated 607 boys into the holy covenant. His sense of charity is probably unique. The local community, which he endeavored to preserve until the end of his life, owes all its modern, well-preserved institutions to his efforts, so that he was awarded the title of Chawer two years ago in recognition of his services."
