Sophie Feldmann (née Wagner) Sophie Wagner was born on July 30, 1866 in Breslau, Silesia (now Poland). Her father David Wagner (born in Milcz on October 29, 1837 and died on January 26, 1910 in Breslau) ran a grain, clover and animal feed wholesale business in Breslau. His mother Cäcilie runs the household and looks after Sophie and her six siblings. On March 7, 1886, Sophie marries the factory owner Simon Feldmann in Breslau, who was born on May 6, 1853 in Boskowitz (Mähren, then Austria). When Simon Feldmann's old factory building became too small, he acquires an extensive plot of land on the Spree in the Berlin suburb of Schöneweide in 1898. Sophie had seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Elsa, Margarete, Charlotte, Fritz and Ruth grow up in Oberschöneweide. In 1925, Simon dies and Sophie and Fritz ütake over the management of the factory and the continuation of the business. With the Nazis coming to power and many reprisals, many German Jews were barely able to maintain their existence. Their son Fritz died on November 29, 1938 as a result of the reprisals. On November 12, 1939, Sophie loses her daughter Ruth, who dies as a result of pulmonary tuberculosis and exhaustion. Sophie is now also seriously ill. On January 10, 1942, a Gestapo officer comes to 14 Tabbertstra<e to clarify the order for Sophie's expulsion and deportation. As a result of these events, Sophie takes her own life with a high dose of sleeping pills and thus avoids deportation. She dies on January 15, 1942.
