Julius Klein, born in Meisenheim on June 30, 1871, had been registered in München at Blumenstra<e 38/IV since 1898, coming from Speyer. He founded the well-known shoe store Julius Klein in Munich. The following entry can be found in the München address books for the years 1903-1911: Klein Julius, branch of Speiers Schuhwaren-Haus, Kaufingerstr.15, Tel.649, apartment Karlsplatz8/3. From 1912 the new entry: Klein Julius, Schuhwarenhaus, Spezialhaus 1.Ranges für moderne Schuhwaren. Exclusive sale of the legally protected brand "Schuhklein", Kaufingerstr.15T u. Bayerstr.7a, Wohn. Haydnstr.4/1. - Julius Klein married Elsa Hess, born in Offenbach on May 6, 1880, in Munich on September 21, 1905. The couple had two children - Kurt, born on October 21, 1906 in Munich and Lissa, born on January 18, 1910 in Munich. After the death of Julius Klein on August 28, 1930, Elsa and Kurt Klein took over the management of the company. In 1934/35, Elsa Klein ran a commission agency for wine and spirits and rented rooms (from August 1935) to permanent tenants (6 rooms, 6 beds) at Herzog-Heinrich-Strasse 13/II. In mid-February 1940, she moved in with her sister Henriette Cohen in Cologne. In October 1941, Elsa Klein and Henriette Cohen were deported from Köln to the Lódz ghetto. In May 1942, they were deported onwards to Kulmhof. The two sisters were murdered there. Kurt Klein emigrated to France as early as 1933 and survived the Shoah partially in hiding. Lissa Klein emigrated from Munich to the USA in time in 1938.
