Office furniture factory - S. Gutmann

In the book " Mitten in Nürnberg - Jüdische Firmen, Freiberufler und Institutionen am Vorabend des Nationalsozialismus " by Gerhard Jochem the following information can be found:  Büromöbel-Fabrik S. Gutmann, owner Hugo Gutmann, Vordere Sterngasse 3 - Salomon Gutmann founded a factory for Büromöbel in Nürnberg in 1878 . He was married to Emma Gutmann, née Lehmann. The couple had four children - Ludwig, born on January 16, 1877, - Julie, married Ettlinger, - Hugo, born on November 19, 1880, - Klara, married Marx, born in 1885.Ludwig and Hugo Gutmann  took over the parent company at Vordere Sterngasse 3 in Nuremberg. Over time, the company developed into one of the largest manufacturers of office machines and office furniture in Germany.At the beginning of July 1937, Hugo Gutmann was arrested and imprisoned for several months in the Nuremberg police headquarters in the Deutschhaus barracks. In 1939 he fled with his family via Cologne to Belgium, in 1940 via France to Portugal and on May 14, 1940 he finally managed to escape to the USA.
