Margarete "Grete" Gumpel was born on February 18, 1892. Her parents were Julius Gumpel, born on December 8, 1852 in Bernburg, and Auguste "Gustchen" Gumpel, née Glogowski, born on January 17, 1854 in Jarocin, Poland. Margarete Gumpel had five siblings - Bruno Gumpel, born on September 19, 1881 - died in 1918 - Gertrud (Udchen) S., married name Reyersbach, born on November 14, 1882 in Berlin - died on April 14, 1942 in Weißenfels (committed suicide before the imminent deportation together with her husband Siegfried Reyersbach). - Paul Jakob Gumpel, born on August 27, 1884 - died on July 30, 1956 in Jerusalem - Lotte Anna Gumpel, married name Samter, born on August 29, 1888 - died in 1956 - Elise (Lise) Fanny Gumpel, married name Rosenthal-Ruckstuhl, born on March 6, 1890 - died on July 17, 1988 - In 1919, Margarete Gumpel married Siegmund Weltlinger, born on March 29, 1886 in Hamburg. From 1912 Siegmund Weltlinger was a trainee and employee at Berlin bankers and from 1913 editor-in-chief and publisher of the Börsenarchiv. During the First World War from 1914 to 1915 as a front-line soldier, then transferred to the Central Purchasing Association of the Belgian Civil Administration as a financial expert, he only returned to Berlin in 1918. From 1919 to 1925, he worked as an authorized bank representative and then until 1938 as a fund broker at the Berlin Stock Exchange in the banking commission business. In the course of the so-called "Reich Crystal Night", he was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen for two months. After his release, he worked in a leading position at the Jewish community in Berlin until 1943. Before the outbreak of war, the couple managed to bring their two children to safety on Kindertransports to England. From 1943 to 1945, they hid with a couple who were friends. Siegmund Weltlinger died on May 18, 1974 and Margarete Weltlinger died on January 31, 1976. The couple found their final resting place at the Jewish cemetery on Heerstraße in Berlin.
