After studying medicine at the Universities of Munich, Berlin and Freiburg and passing his medical examination in 1913, Edgar Heilbronner successfully completed his doctorate at the University of Freiburg in 1915. In the following years, he was an assistant doctor at the hospitals in Bad Cannstatt and Darmstadt and at the universities in Munich and Frankfurt/Main. On 9 March 1922, Dr. Edgar Heilbronner married Anna Rothschild, who was born in Cannstatt on 6 February 1894 and worked as an assistant doctor at the municipal hospital in Bad Cannstatt after completing her medical studies. The couple had three children - Lore, born in 1923, Gerhard, born on September 2, 1926 and Hans Isaak, born on March 11, 1931. In 1923, Dr. Edgar Heilbronner set up his own practice as an orthopaedic surgeon in Stuttgart. His wife Anna worked in the practice as a general practitioner and surgeon and assisted him during operations, for example.
