Hansa 561 and Hansa 1689 shipping department) Owner: Walter Carsch and Fritz Albersheim. - Dr. M. Albersheim, specialty store for fine toilet articles, store Kaiser-Str.9. Erdg. (Hansa 2561) - Moritz (Moises) Albersheim was born on June 18, 1854 in Nottuln, district of Coesfeld in North Rhine-Westphalia. His parents were Leffmann Albersheim, born in Dülmen on September 1, 1821, and his wife Minna Albersheim, née Bendix, also born in Dülmen on February 4, 1825. The Leffmann Albersheim family settled in Nottuln around 1850. Moritz Albersheim had nine other siblings - six sisters and three brothers. Moritz Albersheim studied chemistry and with his dissertation "On Anthraquinone Monosulfonic Acids" in Freiburg in 1881 he graduated with a doctorate in chemistry. In 1892, he founded the company "Dr. M. Albersheim - Fabrik feiner Parfümerien" in Frankfurt, which was soon successful all over the world with a wide range of perfumes, soaps and cosmetic products of all kinds. Originally with a clothing store in Frankfurt a. M. in the Zeil, operated under the name Gustav Carsch, later with a store in Kaiserstraße. Dr. Moritz Albersheim, who remained childless, left the company to his nephew Walter Carsch together with Fritz Albersheim. Moritz Albersheim's niece Alice Carsch married Ludwig Scherk, who initially sold Albersheim products, but later founded his own company in Berlin. During the Reichspogromnacht, the business in Kaiserstraße was destroyed. The Albersheim and Scherk families had to sell their companies for less than they were worth and emigrated to England, France and the USA.
