Laura Jonas, née Loewenthal, was born on October 23, 1867 in Jastrowie (German: Jastrow). Her husband Simon Sigismund Jonas, was born on February 13, 1866 in Rogoźno (German: Rogasen). The Jonas couple moved from Wrocław (German: Breslau) to Dresden in 1921, where Simon Sigismund Jonas ran a successful retail business for cigars. Their four children also lived here. Mr. and Mrs. Jonas initially lived at Reichsplatz 1 (first floor) in 1921; in 1925 they moved to the first floor of Haydnstra<e 16. From 1921 to 1923, Simon Sigismund Jonas initially ran an office as a sales representative at Borsbergstra<e 14. From 1923 to 1925, together with Arthur Meyer, he owned the Jonas & Co. pasta factory (Pfotenhauerstraße 62), and from 1923 all Jonas family members lived in Dresden. The children continued to expand their social position and provided for their parents.
With the help of their eldest son, Laura and Simon Jonas were able to flee to the Netherlands. On March 30, 1943, they were arrested in Rotterdam and sent to the so-called Westerbork police transit camp for Jews. From there, they were deported to the Sobibor extermination camp on July 20, 1943, where Laura and Simon Jonas were murdered on July 23, 1943.
