Thea Fantl, née Katz, was born on October 1, 1908 or 1910 in Beuthen (Bytom) in Upper Silesia.
She married Emil Liebermann in 1928. The couple moved to Dresden together with their first son Klaus Peter, who was born on August 25, 1932 in Breslau (Wrocław). Her husband worked there as a self-employed sales representative. The Liebermanns had three more children in Dresden: Gabriele Ruth (June 2, 1934), Wolfgang Dietrich (June 30, 1937) and Denny (September 30, 1939).
Emil Liebermann was arrested after the Pogrom Night in 1938 and severely mistreated. On his wife's initiative, he received papers to emigrate. In August 1939, he emigrated to Great Britain and hoped to be able to bring his family back soon. The beginning of the war prevented them from reuniting. In November 1942, Thea Liebermann and her son Klaus Peter were deported to the Hellerberg Jewish camp, and in March of the following year to Auschwitz. Mother and son perished there.
The Liebermanns' three younger children probably joined their grandparents in Breslau. However, both grandparents were deported to Theresienstadt and finally to Treblinka at the end of August 1942. Nothing is known about the further fate of the three siblings.
