The Berlin address book - 1879 edition contains the following entry - Meyer Cohn, Unter den Linden 11 - Meyer Cohn was born on March 10, 1817 in Bromberg. His parents were Isaak Alexander Cohn, born in Amsterdam, and Johanna Michaelis, daughter of Meyer Michaelis von Landsberg. Meyer Cohn was married to Jeanne (Jenny) Cohn (Heymann), born in Berlin on October 9, 1830, daughter of Aron Hirsch Heymann, banker, merchant and board member of the Jewish community in Berlin and Johanna Heymann, née Leipziger. Meyer and Jeanne (Jenny) Cohn had two children - Alexander Isaac, born on May 1, 1853 in Berlin and Heinrich, born on October 12, 1855 in Berlin. Meyer Cohn was a trained typesetter by profession and founded the private bank "Bankhaus Meyer Cohn" in Berlin with the support of the local nobility. He later received the honorary title of Kommerzienrat. Meyer Cohn died in Berlin on March 13, 1891 at the age of 74. His sons Alexander and Heinrich took over the management of the bank and ran it until their deaths in 1904/1905. Alexander Meyer-Cohn was co-owner of the Berlin banking house Meyer-Cohn and an important supporter of the Museum of German Folk Costumes and Products of the Household Trades, where he was second treasurer and third and second chairman in 1899/1900. He was also a passionate collector of autographs. From the founding of the Folklore Society in November 1890, he was its treasurer. He also held the position of treasurer in the Literaturarchiv-Gesellschaft, which was founded in December 1891, and in the Verein für die Geschichte Berlins. He also gave valuable gifts to the Literaturarchiv-Gesellschaft, the Goethe National Museum in Weimar and the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. Heinrich Meyer-Cohn was also a co-owner of the bank. After his studies and doctorate, he worked as a lawyer.
