Gustav Heidenheim was born on October 17, 1850 in Sondershausen. His parents were the Bleicherode-born rabbi and grammar school professor Prof. Dr. Philipp Heidenheim and Carlina Lina Heidenheim, née Leser, daughter of the court agent and former community leader David Leser in Sondershausen. Gustav Heidenheim was married to Rosalie Ernstine Oppenheim, born on July 13, 1863 in Köln, daughter of Isaac Oppenheim and Berta Oppenheim, née Mayer. The couple had seven children - Freida Neckleman, born on June 24, 1884 - Bruno Heidenheim, born on August 20, 1885 - 1938 Protective custody and forced labor - due to the physically demanding work under unacceptable conditions, he fell ill. He was denied the medical care he needed. Werner Heidenheim, born on May 6, 1893, also a combatant in World War I, - Margo Amalie, born on December 2, 1896 - Gustav Heidenheim founded a glove factory in Chemnitz in 1879. Ten years later, his brother-in-law Hugo Max Oppenheim became co-owner of the company. In 1898, health reasons caused Gustav Heidenheim to resign from his position. Gustav Heidenheim was one of the 448 German soldiers who were wounded or killed in action in 1870/1871. He served as a non-commissioned officer in the 33rd Infantry Regiment and suffered a gunshot wound to his hand near Metz. Shortly after leaving the company, Gustav Heidenheim voluntarily retired. After his death, Adolph Goldschmidt joined the company as a partner. The company was now run by Hugo Max Oppenheim, Adolph Goldschmidt and his brother Herrmann Goldschmidt.
