Nathan Simons was born on September 4, 1798 in Fliesteden. In 1831 he married Sibilla Löwenthal, born in Geyen on March 4, 1802, in Garzweiler and moved to Neuss with her in 1840. The couple had five children - Brunette, married name Marx, born around 1826,- Leopold, born August 29, 1834,- Sophie, born March 31, 1838 - died May 7, 1846,- Isaak, born April 13, 1840 and Caroline. Initially Nathan Simons was active in the grain trade in the Grevenbroich area. At the age of 33, he founded his own business. Later, he received support from his sons Leopold and Isaak. In 1864, Nathan Simons opened a steam grinding mill in front of the Obertor in Neuss, which was a commercial success when it was relocated to Friedrichstrasse in 1876. By 1874, Isaak and Paul Simons were already among the wealthiest men in the city. In 1887, a second company was founded with a modern mill and refinery, which was managed by Isaak Simons, while Leopold Simons and his son Josef took over the management of the roller mill. In 1881, Nathan and Sibilla Simons celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with honors and gifts from the workforce, the town, the Chamber of Commerce and the synagogue community. In return, the couple donated 4,000 gold marks to the city of Neuss, set up as the "Simon Foundation", with the stipulation that the interest from this be donated to the city's administration for the poor to support those in need, regardless of denomination. Sibilla Simons died in Neuss on April 2, 1883. Nathan Simons followed his wife on December 29, 1886. As early as 1929, the operations of N.Simons Söhne - Walzenmühle and Ölmühle were taken over by Walter Rau AG and continued as "Neusser Ölwerke Walter Rau AG". However, the Simons family did not completely give up its business interest in the company. René Simons, son of Paul Simons, grandson of Isaak Simons, continued to work as an executive employee. On July 23, 1943, Paul and Ida Simons were murdered in the Sobibor extermination camp
