The roots of the Schönfeld & Wolfers company go back to 1869, when Eduard Wolfers, a native of Minden, and Moses Salomon Schönfeld founded the "Textilhandelsgesellschaft Schönfeld& Wolfers - Groöhandel mit Leinen und Teppichen ".Their dominant location was the Jaffé"Gebrüder Jaffé" warehouse, which they had acquired by purchase.Eduard Wolfers, born on April 8, 1839 in Minden, was married to Natalie Alsberg, born on February 22, 1847 in Karlshafen; the couple had 3 children - Gustav, born on August 1, 1874 in Hamburg - died on April 6, 1909 in Hamburg; Hugo, born on October 22, 1875 in Hamburg and Elisabeth Wilhelmine, born on December 23, 1879 in Hamburg. Eduard and Natalie Wolfers were members of the Jewish community and lived at Hochallee 64 in the prestigious Harvestehude district.Moses Salomon Schönfeld died in Hamburg St. Georg as early as 1885.Gustav and Hugo Wolfers joined the company as partners in 1902/1903. After completing his schooling (Johanneum - intermediate school leaving certificate), Hugo Wolfers began an apprenticeship as a businessman, followed by a year of further training in Paris, and was then employed as a clerk in the company. From 1897 he worked as an authorized signatory before Gustav and Hugo Wolfers became partners in the company in 1902/1903  Hugo Wolfers married Olga Oppenheimer in 1907. From 1911 to 1919, Ernst Alsberg, presumably a nephew of Natalie Wolfers, held general power of attorney for the company. Natalie Wolfers died on December 1, 1906 and found her final resting place in the Jewish cemetery in Ohldorf. Eduard Wolfers died on 17 May 1919 and was buried next to his deceased wife.1939/40 the Schönfeld & Wolfers company was aryanized. Hugo and Olga Wolfers were deported to the Riga ghetto on December 6, 1941 and murdered there. Their son Heinz Wolfers died in the Strecknitz sanatorium as a result of pulmonary TB. On October 25, 1941, Elisabeth Gorden and her son Herbert Gorden were deported to the Lodz ghetto and murdered.
