Nathan Ullmann, born in Osterberg on August 17, 1856, his brother Wilhelm, born on February 2, 1855, and their brother-in-law Moritz Kohn, born on May 7, 1850 in Luka (Verušičky - Czech Republic), together built up the wholesale company Kohn und Ullmann, which mainly sold clothing fabrics. Before that, Nathan and Wilhelm Ullmann had already founded the company Ullmann & Co. in 1872.After the turn of the century and growing economic success, Nathan Ullmann took a large apartment at Olgastraße 67, on the corner of Neithardtstraße.Approx.1910 a large house (Wilhelm Ullmann and his family lived there) was built on the site at Bismarckring 34 and the new company building was erected behind it.Wilhelm's sons, Ernst and Robert Ullmann, who were already working in the previous business, later also became partners in Kohn and Ullmann. With the National Socialists' seizure of power, the economic basis of the companies increasingly deteriorated. The Ullmann brothers had to give up the business and emigrated with their families to Holland.Nathan Ullmann, almost 90 years old, was driven out of his home and had to move to the "Jews' house" in Beyerstraße, where his daughter Hedwig, who was married to the doctor Sigmar Ury, had already been forcibly relocated.Nathan Ullmann died on February 21, 1941 in Ulm City Hospital and Hedwig Ury was deported to Theresienstadt via Stuttgart on August 22, 1942 and from there to Auschwitz in October 1944. Sigmar Ury died as a result of his serious illness on May 10, 1941.Hedwig and Sigmar Ury's son Peter Ury was rescued by a Quäker couple in England.Ernst and Johanna Ulllmann were arrested in Holland and deported via Westerbork to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1944, where they were murdered.Robert Ullmann died of hypothermia in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on January 8, 1945. His wife Gertrude and daughter Johanna survived and emigrated to the USA after the end of the war.
