The following entry can be found in the 1887 edition of the Berlin address book: Charlottenstr. 63 - Leo Liepmannsohn, merchant, antiquarian bookseller. - Leonhard Liepmannssohn was born on February 18, 1840 in Landsberg an der Warthe. He attended the Friedrichswerdersche Gymnasium in Berlin from 1851. At the age of seventeen, he passed his Abitur examination there on September 29, 1857. Leo Liepmannssohn trained as a bookseller and antiquarian bookseller at the bookshop A. Asher & Co in Berlin, this and further additional training at the Franco-German Librairie A. Franck in Paris, as well as his love of music - Liepmannssohn was a good pianist - formed the foundation for his specialization as a music antiquarian. In 1866, Leo Liepmannssohn founded his own antiquarian bookshop in Paris together with Charles Dufour. From 1874 and until 1883 Leo Liepmannssohn was based at Markgrafenstra<e 52 in Berlin. In 1883 he moved to Charlottenstr.63 and from 1893 to 1935 finally to Bernburgerstra<e 14. In 1903 the company was sold to Otto Haas. Leo Liepmannssohn was married to Hedwig Pieck, born on July 31, 1852, and the couple had a daughter, Susette, born on July 4, 1890 in Berlin. Leo Liepmannssohn died on May 10, 1915 in Berlin. His wife Hedwig followed him four years later, on May 10, 1919. The couple found their final resting place in a common grave in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee. Susette Liepmannsohn married the cameraman and director Karl Freund. The couple had a daughter - Maria, born on Nov. 5, 1916. In 1920 they divorced and Karl Freund went to California.Susette Freund and her daughter Maria stayed in Berlin.Maria Freund moved to the USA to join her father in 1937. In late 1941 or early 1942, while still imprisoned in Ravensbrück concentration camp, Susette Freund was transferred to the Landes-Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Bernburg/Saale on March 12, 1942 and murdered there. A Stumbling Stone in Berlin-Wilmersdorf at Aschaffenburger Str. 23 commemorates her fate
