Henry Salomon was born on July 24, 1886 in Südafrika. He came to Celle in 1913 and bought the property at Maschplatz 3, where he ran a second-hand goods business or, as it was called at the time, a bone and rag merchant. The fact that Salomon's mother was Protestant and that he therefore had to be considered a "half-Jew" according to National Socialist racial ideology, as well as the fact that he was a recognized war veteran of the First World War and had received several awards, did not protect him: like almost all Jewish men in Celle, he was arrested after the pogrom of 9/10 November 1938. He had to give up his business on January 1, 1939 on the basis of the "Ordinance on the Elimination of Jews from Economic Life". At the beginning of 1941, expropriation proceedings began for the property and in April 1942 the city was entered in the land register as the owner. The house had been sold for 23,500 RM, but Salomon could not dispose of the proceeds, but was allowed to stay in his house for the time being. On March 3, he was committed to the „Jews' House“, Im Kreise 24, and deported to Theresienstadt two days later. His death here is recorded for July 30, 1944.
