Leo Neumann was born on January 7, 1895 in Mikstadt (Mixstadt, formerly Schildberg district, Posen province) in Poland; his parents were the merchant Abraham Neumann and Charlotte Neumann. On August 26, 1919, Leo Neumann married Berta Leppek, who was born there on September 14, 1895, in Kobylin. Her parents were the teacher Isidor Leppek and Jette Leppek, née Baruch. Leo and Berta Neumann had three children - Charlotte, born on June 20, 1920 in Schwersenz, Herta, born on June 13, 1922 in Berlin and Jost Joachim, born on September 3, 1925 in Feuchtwangen. Leo Neumann was a religious teacher and Chasan of the Jewish community in Feuchtwangen from 1924 to 1937. On the evening of December 20, 1937, a large number of people gathered in front of the houses where Jewish Feuchtwangen residents lived and demanded the removal of their Jewish fellow citizens. As the crowd swelled and became increasingly aggressive, the police took several Jewish men into protective custody, including Leo Neumann. At the end of December 1937, Leo Neumann and his family moved to Munich. In Munich, Leo Neumann was an employee of the Ohel Jakob synagogue congregation. In September 1938, daughter Herta emigrated to Atlantic City in the USA. Daughter Lotte, married Lapian, emigrated to the USA via England. Son Jost Joachim was deported from Munich to Piaski on April 4, 1942 and murdered in Majdanek on July 27, 1942 at the age of not even 17. Leo and Berta Neumann were deported from Munich to Auschwitz on March 13, 1943 and murdered there. On May 30, 2023, 5 Stolpersteine were laid in Feuchtwangen to commemorate the fate of the Neumann family.
