Königstraße 26
90402 Nürnberg
Germany
In the Nürnberger - Fürther - Industrie - Almanach 1. 1870 the following entry is found: Kohn, Mayer, Owner: Josef and Anton Kohn, Bankgeschäft. Königstra;e 26. - After Josef Kohn moved to Germany on 24. On May 24, 1850, Josef Kohn and Anton Kohn became the first Jews in 350 years to be granted the right to settle in the city of Nuremberg. They purchased the corner plot at Königstraße 26 / Brunnengasse 2 in the middle of what was then the Hopfenmarktviertel (hop market district) in order to conduct their banking business and trade in hops under the name Mayer Kohn. In 1878, the brothers went their separate ways. Anton Kohn stayed on and continued the business under his own name. When Anton Kohn died in 1872, the business passed to his son Emil Kohn, who focused on the money business. Emil Kohn's sons Martin and Richard Kohn built a new representative bank building in 1912. With the seizure of power by the National Socialists in 1933 and the resulting calls for boycotts and actions, the bank's business also became increasingly difficult until it was finally forced to close down in November 1938 and subsequently liquidated. The building went into the hands of the city and had to be demolished later because of the widening of the Königstraß.
