Walter Steinberg was born on July 7, 1871 in Verden. He was a self-employed master tailor and merchant and had a very good reputation in Bremen. Until the Nazis came to power, Walter Steinberg employed around 30 employees and tailors. From 1933 on, the business situation deteriorated continuously. During the Night of Broken Glass, Walter Steinberg was arrested and sent to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp via the Oslebshausen penitentiary on November 11/12, 1938. He was only released after a few weeks. Still in 1938 he sold the business and the Bischofsnadel 12 store. In 1939 he sold the property Am Wall 170/Ostertorwallstra;e 68a. On July 23, 1942, Walter Steinberg was deported to Theresienstadt and died there on Aug. 19, 1942. In Bremen at his last residence " Am Wall 170 " a stumbling stone commemorates the fate of Walter Steinberg.
