The origins of the banking business B. J. Friedheim & Co. go back to 1847. The princely court agent Baruch Jakob Friedheim, who founded a drapery business together with his brother in 1795, received the princely privilege to establish a loan house in 1799. In 1847 Baruch Jakob received permission from Duke Heinrich von Anhalt-Küthen to establish a savings bank. In 1872, Felix Friedheim, a grandson of the company founder, joined the company as a partner. After the death of his father Joseph Friedheim (a long-serving member of the Anhalt parliament) in 1873, Felix Friedheim and his mother Minna, née Cohn, continued the banking business. Felix Friedheim was very successful and wealthy. His charity was widely spread. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the bank, he supported the construction of the new town hall with extensive donations and created a foundation for the poor. The city appointed him an honorary citizen and the Duke of Anhalt awarded him the title of Privy Councillor of Commerce. - Max W.G. Friedheim, born on December 27, 1882 in Köthen, son of Felix and Adele Friedheim died in 1941 in Marylebone in England. His wife Marie Minze Friedheim, née Huldschinsky died on November 1, 1939 in New York.
